Top strategic technology trends for 2023 from Gartner
24.10.2022
Every year, the research company Gartner publishes a list of the most promising strategic technology trends for the coming year. CIOs and managers should pay attention to them.
Gartner Vice President and Principal Analyst Frances Karamouzis said that this year's focus is on the following topics:
- Optimization
- Scaling
- Implementation of new technologies
And she noted that "uncertainty can be an opportunity", calling on top management from the IT sector to "make innovation mandatory".
Here is the full list of recommended innovations:
- Digital immunity. It is necessary to optimize resilience by creating a company's immune system to a certain extent.
- Applied observation. To optimize the process, companies should focus on applied observability, which covers the entire slice of information, starting with raw data.
- AI TRiSM. To increase the level of trust in AI, it is necessary to manage trust, risks, and security. Half of AI models are never put into production due to security and privacy concerns
- Industry-specific cloud platforms. Vertical scaling will require a shift to industry-specific cloud platforms that combine software as a service (SaaS), platform as a service (PaaS), and infrastructure functions to allow organizations to create unique industry-specific applications.
- Platform engineering. Companies should focus on enabling reuse for accelerated deployment through a common set of reusable components and a self-service development portal.
- Realizing the value of wireless. All kinds of devices need to be tracked, from end-user discovery to digital tags on products.
- Super applications. We are talking about super-apps that combine apps, platform, and ecosystem into one application and allow third parties to develop "mini-apps" on top of it.
- Adaptive AI. There is a need for adaptive systems that use real-time feedback to continuously retrain models based on new data and adjusted goals.
- Metaverse. Today, it's all about building a reputation for innovation, but organizations use the meta-universe for a variety of purposes, including customer service, brand impact, events, and marketplaces. Companies should invest in technologies that help them move forward now.
- Sustainable development technology. We need to consider the impact of all the technologies we implement. Both environmental and social responsibility, as well as profitability and revenue to the same extent.
Karamuzis suggests that CIOs choose the target areas that are really important to their particular business, group them and overlay the trends on a timeline, and then create a roadmap of what to invest in.
